Great Horsham Grub: The Black Jug, Rump Steak Sarnie

Great Horsham Grub – No.3

The Great Grub: Rump Steak Sandwich (with chips)

The Place: The Black Jug

The Reason: I’d say most people have a favourite sandwich, and this should be it. It’s stuffed with tender, perfectly cooked rump steak sandwiched within a fresh panini roll, the juices merging with the buttered bread, the soft onions.  the salad and all served up with some chunky chips and absolutely packed with flavour.  It can be found listed as a ‘Light Bite’ on the menu but there is enough on the plate to make this a main meal. I sampled a steak sarnie from the pub’s main rival in the town (before it closed down) and it did not live up to the flavour or the value for money that you get with this. It’s a classic and regular feature on the seasonal menu that changes daily from what is Horsham’s best pub (it’s part of the Brunning & Price family, so the menu will probably be found in other pubs around the UK) Wash it down with one of the well kept real ales on tap (if you’re a real ale fan then this place is a must, most other pubs in the town are Hall & Woodhouse)

The Price: £9.95

Also Try: Everything else on the menu! The vegetarian options are always excellent, as are the game dishes.

The Grubby Hen is all about ethical eating and for me this includes supporting the local/independent traders using the best ingredients to produce truly great grub.

This is a series of posts promoting what are, in my humble opinion, the gems that are to be found in my hometown of Horsham, West Sussex. These are great eats that I love and want people to know about, so step away from the sub, put down that packet pasty and sample Horsham’s very best independent eats.
